5 Farmhouse Kitchen Pantry Storage Tips To Make Over Your Pantry Without A Complete Overhaul

Five farmhouse kitchen pantry storage tips to organize a pantry without a complete overhaul. Each pantry storage idea will maximize pantry space with grace!

Our farmhouse kitchen is where the heart of our home beats a little louder with the comforting aroma of freshly baked muffins and the laughter of family and friends gathered around. Every detail matters in this cozy haven of farmhouse living – from the inviting kitchen island to the coffee bar that beckons all who enter.

However, amidst all the charm, I must confess that one corner of our kitchen had long evaded the farmhouse aesthetic and orderliness I hold dear – our pantry.

It had become, to put it mildly, a chaotic nightmare. Shelves crammed with items haphazardly stacked, ingredients lost in the shuffle, and an overall lack of organization had taken the joy out of this vital storage space.

That is until our farmhouse pantry underwent quite a transformation last autumn. It made a complete 360-degree turn from an embarrassment to a source of pride.

And you know what? You can achieve the same without embarking on a total overhaul. That’s right – I’m here to share five simple yet game-changing kitchen pantry storage tips that will refresh your pantry space.

Tip #1: Free Up Cupboard Space

When it comes to pantry organization, it’s often the simplest changes that make the most significant impact. One such game-changing tip is to free up your kitchen cupboard space by relocating taller items to the top shelf of your pantry.

It might sound like a slight shift, but trust me, it can work wonders in maximizing your farmhouse kitchen’s storage potential.

Why It Works:

When you place taller items on your pantry’s top shelf, you’re capitalizing on underutilized space. Most pantries have a generous vertical top shelf, and it’s the best place to store items that don’t quite fit within cupboards.

By making use of this often-overlooked area, you create more breathing room in your cupboards and provide easy access to tall items.

I store our wood cutting boards, elegant cake stands, and unique charcuterie boards here. By finding a new home for these items on the top shelf, I freed up space and created an appealing visual display in our pantry’s overall look.

Tip #2: Showcase Your Spices

Showcasing your spices is a little-known secret to improve functionality and give your farmhouse pantry a mini makeover. In addition to the visual appeal, a well-organized spice rack can streamline your cooking process.

You’ll be able to quickly spot the spices you need, making meal preparation a breeze.

How It Works:

  1. First, select a spice rack that fits your style. I chose the 3-tier, space-saving spice rack.
  2. Next, choose glass spice jars to showcase their vibrant colors and unique texture. I bought this spice jar set with bamboo lids that came with farmhouse-style labels!
  3. Use the mini funnel that comes with the spice jar set to fill each jar, label it, and arrange it on your space rack in order of most used in the front to least used in the back.

For bulky whole spices or those spices you constantly use – that’s cinnamon in our home, repurpose glass yogurt jars with these wood lids. Then place them on a convenient lazy susan to use your space well.

The beauty of this pantry storage tip is that it goes beyond functionality, elevating your pantry space.

Tip # 3: Use Large Bins For Bulky Items

Often, the biggest culprit of a cluttered pantry is bulky items. Cracker boxes, bags of chips, or bulk packages of pasta just don’t neatly fit onto standard shelves. To conquer this pantry challenge, utilize large bins.

Why It Works:

Large bins with sturdy handles can serve as dedicated storage spaces for those larger-than-life pantry staples that tend to create clutter on standard shelves.

By grouping similar items into these spacious bins, you can easily keep your pantry organized while ensuring that bulky items are neatly contained and easily accessible.

Choose bins equipped with handles to pull out a bin to access its contents effortlessly. This feature makes retrieving and restocking items a breeze, even if they’re stored at the back of your pantry!

I use these storage bins to group and store quick meal preparation, school snacks and lunchbox items, and paper goods for entertaining, like napkins, plates, and disposable utensils.

This pantry organization tip simplifies your daily routines and gives your pantry a structured and tidy appearance.

Tip # 4: Make Your Perishables Visible

A well-organized pantry isn’t just about neatly arranged shelves and labeled containers. It’s also about ensuring that perishable pantry staples get eaten before they expire.

No more bags of potatoes and onions piled on the pantry floor!

Why It Matters:

Perishable staples, such as tomatoes, garlic bulbs, and apples, are the heartbeat of a healthy farmhouse kitchen.

By incorporating designated storage solutions for your fruits and vegetables, you ensure that they stay fresh and create a visual reminder to include them in your meals.

A pantry filled with a colorful array of fresh produce is inviting and inspiring. It can encourage you and your family to reach for fresh, nutritious options.

To implement this tip effectively, consider options such as wire baskets or tiered produce stands that keep your fruits and vegetables within sight:

  • These metal farmhouse baskets are a lot like the ones I use.
  • Stackable metal baskets with an open front would also look great in a farmhouse pantry!
One of the joys of farmhouse living is the time-honored tradition of baking. Whether you're whipping up muffins, crafting a pie, or experimenting with a new cookie recipe, having a dedicated baking station within your pantry can enhance your farmhouse kitchen experience.

Tip #5: Create a Baking Station

One of the joys of farmhouse living is the time-honored tradition of baking. Whether you’re whipping up muffins, crafting a pie, or experimenting with a new cookie recipe, having a dedicated baking station within your pantry can enhance your farmhouse kitchen experience.

How It Works:

A designated baking station within your pantry not only adds a touch of farmhouse charm but also boosts your baking endeavors. It offers a convenient, organized space where you can easily access baking essentials. No more rummaging through cluttered shelves or cupboards.

Use clear, airtight, labeled containers to create an efficient baking station. This keeps everything fresh and visible for restocking – so you don’t run out of baking soda when you need it most!

I chose decorative glass canisters for these baking staples:

  • All-purpose Flour
  • Granulated Sugar
  • Baking Soda
  • Brown Sugar
  • Cornstarch
  • Fine Caster Sugar
  • Baking Powder
  • Powdered Sugar

Each is neatly arranged and readily available in one spot. I also filled the large vintage picnic basket on the same shelf with all my extracts, sprinkles, and icing colors.

With a well-organized baking station, you’ll find that whipping up delicious treats becomes a breeze.

Utilizing these five farmhouse kitchen pantry storage tips gives you everything you need within arm’s reach. So, you can fill lunchboxes, pull together quick meals, or try that new recipe with enthusiasm!
